A lecture educating members of the Lower Merion community about the Syrian Civil War with guest speakers Omar Alshogre and Mouaz Moustafa.

ABOUT THE LECTURE​

In collaboration with Siobhan Daley-Gibson (Harriton Class of 2019), WIA worked for over a month on planning the event and developing a social media campaign. The lecture, held on March 15, 2019, aimed to inform members of the Lower Merion community about the Syrian Civil War and the atrocities committed against the civilians of Syria.

GUEST SPEAKERS​

"The Crisis In Syria" lecture featured Omar Alshogre and Mouaz Moustafa (left and right, respectively).

 

Alshogre is a Syrian refugee who has become a public speaker and human rights activist since fleeing his home country. Born in al-Bayda, Alshogre was first arrested for two days for protesting the Syrian government in 2011. He would eventually be arrested in 2012 and would spend three years in multiple prisons before luckily escaping. To learn more about Alshogre, head here.

Moustafa, born in Damascus, is  the Executive Director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, Political Director of United for a Free Syria), and serves on the Government Relations Committee of the Coalition for a Democratic Syria.
